Three people died Thursday evening after a three-vehicle crash at Harris Road and Summer Springs Drive, the Bakersfield Police Department reported.

It said a Toyota SUV was driving east on Harris at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a Ford SUV at the intersection of Summer Springs. The crash caused an additional impact with the Honda, which along with the Ford was also headed east, BPD said in a news release.

The woman who was the Toyota’s sole occupant was taken to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries, the release said. A man and woman in the Ford both died at the scene, while the Honda’s occupants only complained of pain.

One of the victims was identified by the Kern County coroner's office as 51-year-old Bakersfield resident Silvia Reyes, who the agency said died at the scene. Dying with her at the scene was Omar Zacarias, age 49 of Bakersfield, the agency noted.

The coroner's office said Sandra Lee Slaydon, age 34 of Bakersfield, died 51 minutes after the incident, at 7:36 p.m. at Kern Medical.
