Two defendants were convicted Monday of the first-degree murder of a man July 29, 2024 in Lamont, the Kern County District Attorney’s Office reported.

A news release from the DA’s Office said separate Kern County juries found Gabriel Prieto and Romieo Narvaez guilty of killing Emanuel Gonzalez, who it said was found pinned inside a vehicle after a crash. It noted his face was covered in blood with an apparent wound to his forehead with TMC vape pen boxes and marijuana buds scattered inside the vehicle.

Investigators determined Narvaez and Prieto arranged to buy marijuana from Gonzalez. But when the transaction took place at Georgetown Avenue and Field Street, the release said, Prieto shot the victim and took marijuana from his vehicle.

Prieto and Narvaez face the possibility of life without the possibility of parole when they are sentenced Aug. 6 in Kern County Superior Court.
