Bass is in a tight race for another four-year term with reality TV personality Spencer Pratt and progressive city council member Nithya Raman. There are 14 candidates overall. The primary election concludes June 2.

The Republican Pratt focuses on populist themes, criticizing liberal governance and highlighting issues including homelessness. Despite Pratt's creative campaign, he faces a challenge in the heavily Democratic city. Mayor Karen Bass is seeking a second term and has strong Democratic support. Pratt says he knows “what the consequences of failed leadership are.” Bass tells Fox News she thinks Pratt ”is about his own celebrity."
Los Angeles is set to host eight World Cup matches, including the U.S. opener against Paraguay on June 12 at SoFi Stadium. The city is famous for its sun, surf, celebrity sightings and diverse food scene. Visitors also will notice the ongoing homeless crisis and high gas prices. The FIFA Fan Festival runs from June 11-14, with 10 other fan zones open through July 19.
