County officials are optimistic about what they said is progress in addressing homelessness even as annual count numbers show the local population remains high.

In a presentation to the Kern County Board of Supervisors Tuesday, county staff said that despite the recent point-in-time, or PIT, count showing a slight increase in the unhoused population, the county had several other accomplishments it could point to.
