Calling all mariachi music lovers! Students from all four corners of Kern County — and beyond, including Las Vegas and Los Angeles — will get a chance to learn from the best maestros in the business at the third annual mariachi festival sponsored by United Way of Central Eastern California and Lotus Bakersfield Corp.
Students of all ages can participate in workshops in a variety of instruments including guitar, violin, vihuela (similar to a guitar), trumpet and voice. Beginners will be taught by members of Mariachi San Marcos of Bakersfield, the intermediate group will be handled by the female group Nuevo Tecalitlán Mariachi Femenil and the advanced class will be under its male counterpart, Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán. Both Tecalitlán groups are from Guadalajara, Mexico. Female groups are a refreshing experience to see and hear in the traditional macho-dominated world of mariachi music.
