The Bakersfield police officer who was charged with assault after allegedly trying to force his K9 partner to attack a woman was denied his request Friday for a diversion on his misdemeanor charge.

Anthony Berumen was charged July 10 with assault by a public officer, according to court records. Berumen was suspected of using unnecessary and unreasonable force to arrest a woman at Blanco Hotel in the 2700 block of White Lane, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
