Two 18th Street properties that sat neglected for years in downtown Bakersfield have recently gotten positive attention, though it’s unclear in both cases what additional work might happen in the near term.

One of them, a vacant lot where in 2015 a San Diego County developer proposed building a four-story apartment project but never followed through, was smoothed over this month to address risks related to rebar and trenches remaining at the site.
