A novel health-care project planned for Weedpatch Highway is bringing a Bakersfield hospital and a local manufacturer together with a Pennsylvania company to help underserved Medi-Cal patients.

Funded in part by about $8 million in state grant money, the Weedpatch Integrated Wellness Center will consist of two 6,000-square-foot clinics in east Bakersfield, one focused on behavioral health and the other on pediatric and maternal medicine. The complex will also provide primary care.
