The city of Bakersfield is hosting a large-item drop off event Saturday at Riverlakes Ranch Park from 7 to 11 a.m. The city moved the time an hour earlier in hopes of trying to beat some of the expected heat that day. 

The pop-up bulky item drop-off is a free place for residents to safety get rid of items too large to place in standard city trash bins. Residents should be prepared to unload items themselves. Accepted items include things like mattresses and box springs; major appliances; and e-waste electronics such as TVs, computer monitors and printers.
